Food Donation - Earth Day, April 2025

Co-presented by Story Money Impact, this Earth Month community meeting presents a screening of the environmental documentary “The Interceptors”, followed by a panel discussion exploring food waste solutions in film production. Our solutions-focused panel with leading experts within the film and food industries discuss strategies for reducing food waste in production, while dispelling myths around food donation. Where can excess catering and craft food be donated and how can the industry divert its food waste from landfill?

OGS welcomed Bobby Donches, Manager of Permitting for Film & Entertainment in the City of Toronto, to share exciting updates on power drop kiosks—a game-changer for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by allowing productions to plug directly into the grid!

OGS then welcomed Sari Abdo (hungerhub) and Juliana Greco (Suppli) to discuss their innovative reusable container program, which helped the production of Beacon 23 save over 2,000 single-use takeout containers from landfill in just four months!

Amy Robinson (Second Harvest) joined the OGS community to highlight the environmental, social, and economic benefits of food rescue. Angelica Siegel & Patrick Cameron (Cream Productions) join us to discuss our first-ever case study, focusing on waste diversion and carbon tracking on The Haunted Museum. Find out how this production achieved an 82% diversion rate and successfully measured their carbon footprint using carbon calculation strategies!

It's an art in cooperation and reuse, and it certainly requires creative thinking. On the menu: material choice, modular sets, scheduling, strike, new samples, and lock ups. This practical round table discussion is geared toward enhancing our circularity tool kit, with seasoned architects, production designers, and heads of construction sharing their expertise on necessary actions for successful circularity.
