Trillium Book Award
Welcome to the 2021 Trillium Book Awards
Ontario Creates is pleased to welcome you to the 2021 Trillium Book Awards — our annual celebration of Ontario’s most talented authors.
The Trillium Book Award was established in 1987 to recognize Ontario’s literary excellence in both official languages and across all genres. It is the province’s most prestigious literary award, and every year it is an honour to recognize and celebrate Ontario’s world-class writing talent.
Over the past year, we’ve watched the world transform.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live, work,
and play. It’s kept us at a distance, but we’ve found new ways to connect with each other and
it’s brought us closer to the books we love; finding comfort in old favourites, joy in sharing, and excitement in discovering new treasures. Writers and publishers have shown tremendous resilience and creativity in the ways they are reaching readers around the world.
Ontario Creates’ mandate is to support investment and growth in Ontario’s creative industries — and book publishing plays a vital role in Ontario’s creative ecosystem—contributing to both our economy and our quality of life.
Congratulations to this year’s finalists. In a year that held some dark moments, you are literary lights reflecting the spectrum of Ontario’s diverse writers and their stories. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff at Ontario Creates, we wish you and your publishers continued success in bringing Canada’s voices to a growing global audience, especially at a time when people around the world are pausing to reflect and to read.
We are delighted to present the Trillium Book Award finalists to you with this digital booklet and we hope that what you discover here will become your 2021 summer reading list!
We look forward to celebrating the work of this year’s finalists with you, online and on our social media platforms.
Sincerely,
Aaron Campbell Chair
